Independence Day 2015
“A new star rises, the star of freedom in the east, a new hope comes into being, a vision long cherished materializes. May the star never set and that hope never betrayed!”
It was with these words spoken by none other than Jawaharlal Nehru in his speech Tryst with Destiny, on August 15 1947 that India broke free from the shackles of the British and embarked on its journey of independence. And to honor this magnificent day, a special assembly is held each year in St. Xavier’s School. This year too, the assembly was held and though it came to an abrupt conclusion, it still was a majestic event.
The Masters of Ceremony were Shagun Jain (11-E) and Hardik Khandelwal (11-B) and the chief guest was Fr. Vincent Paul. The assembly began with an enchanting performance by the senior school choir which was followed by the national anthem and hoisting of the Indian Tricolour by the chief guest.
Then came the highly anticipated Bagpiper’s band performance which was a grand spectacle. The band, led by Anshul Panicker, gave an absolutely enthralling and flawless performance. Incidentally, this was also the band’s first performance in front of the entire school.
This was followed by an energetic and spellbinding dance by the middle school students which ignited a spark of patriotism in the heart of every member of the audience. Even the torrential rain failed to dampen their spirit.
Though, eventually Nature had its way and the assembly had to be ended but the students proved their mettle nonetheless.
