Independence Day 2019

At the stroke of the midnight hour, when the world sleeps, India will awake to life and freedom.’

Remembering these words of our first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the Independence Day ceremony in our school commenced. The chief guest for the event was Fr. Jeera.

This was a much-awaited event, and preparations had been going on for quite a while. The students had all gathered in the assembly ground, and amidst them stood the flag pole, decorated well with a rangoli at its base.

The school choir sung the prayer song. The melodious voices of the singers reached the souls of everyone present, as we prayed for our nation and for our countrymen.

This was followed by the hoisting of the National Flag by the chief guest to the National Anthem. Everyone’s hearts swelled with patriotic pride as they stood in attention, respecting our motherland.

The School Bagpipe Band, the NCC and the Scouts and Guides presented a grand parade, with everyone in perfect synchronisation with each other. It was a spectacular event, as everyone watched the young bravehearts march with energy, fuelled by patriotism and invigorated by the tunes played by the bagpipe band, who added more life to the performance while their drums held the parade together. Watching it filled everyone with motivation and energy.

The Junior School students performed a dance. It showcased the plight of women in India. They showed the problems faced by women more than seven decades after Independence, and made everyone feel the anger and the sorrow, of these women. It was a touching performance. It conveyed a strong message to stand up for these women. There was no one who wasn’t teary-eyed after such a performance.

The school choir sang a patriotic song. The perfectly sung, energetic notes and the powerful lyrics called out to everyone’s mind, heart and soul to serve our country in whatever way we can.

The esteemed chief guest gave a rousing speech. It called the youth to action to stand united for the nation. He told us that, “United we stand, divided we fall.” He told us that India’s greatest strength was its diversity, and it was the need of the hour to bring such a diverse group of people together in order for our nation to progress.

The event ended with everyone feeling a sense of pride in our nation and for those who had sacrificed everything, including their lives, for the sake of our nations.

The eXrays team wishes you all a very happy Independence Day. Jai Hind!
