Sports Day

Oblivious of the torrid sun and glowering heat,the whole of St.Xaviers was out on the grounds to celebrate the 75th Annual Sports Day,held on 26 November,2016 . As one of the most important events in the school calendar ,it can easily be called a synonym for courage , perseverance and tranquility.
It was honoured by Major General Rajendra Singh Thakur, MG-if-Adm, HQ South Western Command,as the chief guest .
The event commenced with the welcome note by the Principal ,Rev.Fr.T.J.Jose , who briefed the gathering about the school’s sports achievements . It was followed by the hoisting of the school flag and then the School Cheer Song .

After this ,the parade commander Arjun Keena, invited the chief guest to inspect the parade . He was accompanied by the Principal and the guards of honour. After taking the oath by the General Captain Pranjali Sehgal, the Olympics inspired flaming torch symbolising discipline,spirit and tenacity was transferred by the outgoing General Captain to the incoming General Captain Hemendra Chabarwal.
The most coveted event of the day, the march past was a spectacular display of discipline and hard work. The rhythmic and measured movements of the students were the result of weeks of practice. It was followed by the address of the chief guest and the photo of national level players with the chief guest which was a matter of pride.
The CCE drill by the junior school students,the MJ drill and the girls dance took away the show.And finally the most interesting and exciting part of the Sports Day began- the track events. With each event passing by and points moving on, the enthusiasm and nervousness was clearly showing up on students and their house Captains, all sincerely longing for their respective house to grab the coveted MASUDA cup.
The last event , the TUG O’ WAR amongst the Alumni and school students finally brought the event to a halt. As the trend so far has gone, it was won by the Alumini. kudos to them .
Each house worked day and night to stay ahead in the race of winning the Masuda Cup. It is the most prestigious and the most esteemed award . Finally it was lifted by the Blues house . Overall parade was won by the Reds house.
In the end , Father Sobin Martin delivered the vote of thanks ,followed by the distribution of the major awards .
The event concluded with the national anthem.
